It’s been around for sometime now and most people have been using the service in a limited capacity. However, navigating to my messages in my Facebook account brought a friendly pop-up at the top of the page.
Apart from the fact that Facebook now structures its messages in a way that you receive everything from messages sent to your inbox and offline chats in one convenient place, you inbox, you can now set your account in such a way that you receive notifications, emails straight to your mobile as an sms.
Great, huh? Especially those times when you don’t have the time to log on to your account and you can also do some posting from your sms. Users also have the option of sending messages to their recipients’ mobile when they check the “send also as sms” check box just below the “Message” field shown below.
Here’s how it works:
– If you do not find the pop-ups (as shown above) when you navigate to your message tab, click on your Account menu (at the top right corner).
– Select “Account setting” then click on mobile. From there on, the configuration is very intuitive.
You can set up this messaging in a lot of ways. In other words, it is very flexible for those of you who are worried about privacy issues.
IMPORTANT! Don’t forget to claim your Facebook username so that your email address would look more like email@example.com and not some weird string of characters. Alas! Now you can give your email addresses as firstname.lastname@example.org! I just tried send a message from my Gmail to my Facebook email address and it worked like a charm.
